7 Read the theory. Rewrite the direct questions as indirect questions. We use indirect questions to ask for information. We normally introduce them with question words (who, what, etc) or with if/ whether. We can use them after the expressions: Can you tell me...?, Could you explain ...?, Do you know ...?, I'd like to know ..., I wonder.... The word order in indirect questions is the same as in statements (subject + verb). Direct questions: Where's Akbota? Has Akbota left? Indirect questions: Can you tell me where Bakhytzhan is? I wonder if/whether Jane has left. 1 When does the race begin? Could you tell me when the race begins? 2 Are there any tickets left for the football match? 3 Can I pay for the tickets by credit card? 4 Who is the captain of the team?
